It's important to understand what you're putting in your body. Especially when it comes to something you consume most likely daily, like protein powders, protein bars, supplements, and vitamins.
Vitamins and supplements are so important to have in your daily routine. I know there are so many choices out there and it can be a bit overwhelming. Wondering if what you chose is what your body needs. Let me fill you in some basic information, one being synthetic vs. not synthetic. Synthetic vitamins are made from chemicals to mimic the natural way your body absorbs nutrients from food. Synthetic vitamins are difficult for your body to absorb and even can cause health issues. The other option? Whole food vitamins, these are recognizable to the body. Our body utilizes what we need from organic vitamins and gets rid of the rest. Our body excretes excess organic vitamins, while synthetic vitamins get stored in the liver as substances toxic to the body.
Why are vitamins and supplements so important? Our soil is stripped of its nutritional value by mainstream farming methods. These fields are depleted by overuse and repeat planting, which doesn't give the soil time to renew itself. What that means, is that our foods are not as rich and dense with vitamins and minerals like they use to be. Even if you're eating your fruits and veggies you're not getting nearly as many vitamins and minerals as you would of 100's of years ago. Conventional farming methods also add pesticides and fertilizers to their products that end up being harmful produce. When farmers add pesticides to their crops, these pesticides limit the action of absorbing beneficial microbes in the soil that help plants draw in nutrients. On top of all that, a lot of our food is refined and processed, so it lasts longer and is more convenient. Doing that also destroys the nutrients. No wonder why we are seeing auto-immune disorders, food allergies, and obesity at an ultimate high!! This is why organic, sustainable farming methods matter.
Protein Powders and Protein Bars can be quite convenient when it comes to weight loss goals and just having a busy life and need something quick to grab. Maybe, next time you grab something you might think twice about if that shake or bar is actually helping you or hurting you?
Here are some ingredients listed that should never be in your protein powders and bars;

Dextrins/Maltodextrin
Artificial Sweeteners
Soy or Soy Lecithin
Skim milk or milk solids
